Our Camps and Lodges

Wolwedans provides the perfect base from which to explore the Namibrand, two hours south of Sossusvlei.

” Wolwedans wants guests to go slow, and disconnect too reconnect.

With themselves, with nature, and with humankind “

Stephan Brückner

Dune Camp is situated on the site where the first four Wolwedans Igloo Dome tents were built, way back in the late 90’s.  It’s a very special place for us and carries a lot of memories.  While the Igloo’s are long gone, we’ve tried to preserve the spirit of this down-to-earth experience that still delivers comfort and style.

Positioned on the edge of a 250-metre high dune, the Dune Camp sleeps a maximum of 16 guests in a totally pristine setting. The tented rooms are pitched on wooden platforms and are comfortable and spacious including an indoor and outdoor bathroom. A generous deck allows for plenty of lounging around, safe sleep-outs under the stars, and each comes with the ‘Wolwedans Chiller’ – a water filled silo to cool off during hot summer months.

The main tent houses a lounge, dining area and an open-plan kitchen across a series of decks all orientated to take full of advantage of the desert views.  At the centre of our main area is a beautiful Acacia tree that we planted when we first built Dune Camp. This wonderful tree overlooks the campfire on the sundowner deck, where you can enjoy a drink and chat to fellow travellers.

Times (and guests) have dictated that we must have WIFI.  We’ve given in and built a separate lounge away from the main area where WIFI is available. This means you can face-time and chat on the phone for as long as you like without ruining the atmosphere in the main areas  for other guests.  There is no WIFI in the tents.

Dune Camp Private is designed for those who enjoy their privacy and want space to relax while still having the option of the main camp a short walk away.

It has two ensuite bedrooms each with a generous outdoor bathrooms. Another tented room is ideal for children and shares a bathroom with one of the suites. An intimate lounge and dining area separate the two suites ensuring privacy from each other should you be friends, couples or an extended family travelling together.  A series of decks link the spaces together providing ample room to relax.  Additionally, each suite has a plunge pool, known as the ‘Wolwedans chiller’, too cool off in on hot days.  Guests staying here can opt to have meals at the main camp or or in the privacy of their villa.  Meals will be delivered from the main lodge.  This villa is on an exclusive-use basis only.

Plains Camp, formerly known as Private Camp, rests in the center of a vast valley, hence the name.  Plains Camp is your special home at Wolwedans. It demands nothing much of you, but to relax and gaze at the ever-changing colours of the desert.

Plains Camp caters for 8 guests in 4 spacious en-suite rooms (2 master rooms and 2 standard rooms) and is the perfect getaway for families and friends seeking uncompromising privacy and solitude.  The villa’s open-plan design allows uninterrupted views of the surrounding nature. The villa comes with its own staff, guide and vehicle.

The Mountain View Suite is one of our more luxurious properties. Built over 200 square meters of deck rising above the dunes there is ample space to relax while staring down the valley to the distant mountains.

The Suite is located within walking distance from the Desert Lodge, but is completely private. Built in a half moon shape, and orientated to take full advantage of the view, the timber framed tented structure is built around a deck with a private plunge pool. Off to one side is the sleep out deck and on the other end a fire pit overlooked by the lounge. From the lounge you continue through to the small kitchen where your private chef will prepare your meals and serve them in the dining area or on the deck should you wish to dine ‘at home’.  The spacious Master suite overlooks the pool deck and the endless desert vistas.

Desert Lodge is a very special and exciting place for us at Wolwedans because it symbolises a sustainable future. It is the vocational training facility, or living classroom, for our hospitality students. Our students do all their theory at the Wolwedans Desert Academy located at the Village, and then move come up to the Desert Lodge to put it all into practise.  You will probably experience some innocent mistakes, but the huge smiles and enthusiasm will make up for this.  Our students have come from all over Namibia to learn with us.

The lodge reflects the ambience of a tented camp, but provides the comfort and protection of a permanent building. Each of the nine spacious tented rooms (3 of which are family units) have a private verandah, which connects you to the vast stretches of untouched sand. Sleeping with your canvas blinds open allows the night sky and sounds into your room.

The extensive main complex is built across a series of inter-leading decks and consists of two lounges, a number of sundowner decks, a tea deck, a library, the wine cellar and two dining rooms.  There is a swimming pool with an extensive deck for relaxing that is suspended above the sand with views across the desert.

As the name suggests, Boulders Camp has been carefully located in and around the base of a massive outcrop of granite rocks in the Namibrand plains.  This tiny camp is 3 hours south of our other camps and is as far off the beaten track as you can get.  People who come to Boulders, come with a sense of adventure and a deep need to be completely removed from every day life, staying here feels like you are on another planet.

The main area consists of a dining and lounge tent, a breakfast deck, library, pool and an open fireplace. There are 5 tented rooms spread across spacious decks with shared plunge pools. Sundowners can be enjoyed from the top of a mountainous rock plateau close by, delivering epic views of the endless landscape.

Boulders Camp works on a 3 night set itinerary.  This is a very remote camp and we need you there for an extended period of time in order to introduce you properly to this magical and awe-inspiring place.
