Our Camps and Lodges

Warmth and personalised service - and a commitment to care for guest and nature alike - are Wolwedans hallmarks.

” Wolwedans wants guests to go slow,
and disconnect to reconnect…
with themselves, with nature, and with humankind “

Stephan Brückner

Dune Camp is situated on the site where the first four Wolwedans Igloo Dome tents were built, way back in the late 90s.  It’s a special place for us and carries many memories. Today, the Igloos are long gone, but we’ve tried to preserve the spirit of this down-to-earth experience while still delivering comfort and style.

Positioned on the edge of a 250-metre high dune, Dune Camp’s setting is pristine. The six tented rooms are pitched on wooden platforms and are comfortable and spacious, with private decks that allow for plenty of lounging around.

The 2-bed family suite, located just over the dunes, is equally as comfortable. The two large bedrooms, both with their own bathrooms, are connected by a large living space and deck that allows for space to relax together but also privacy.

At the main area of Dune Camp, shared by guests at the camp and in the family suite, a lounge, dining area and open-plan kitchen are built across a series of decks and orientated to take full of advantage of the desert views. At the centre is a beautiful Acacia tree that we planted when we first built Dune Camp.

Times (and guests) have dictated that we must have WiFi. We’ve given in and built a separate lounge away from the main area where WiFi is available for those that want, without ruining the atmosphere for other guests. There is no WIFI in the tents.

Plains Camp, formerly known as Private Camp, rests in the centre of a vast valley, and surrounded by plains for as far as the eye can see. Plains Camp is your special home at Wolwedans, demanding nothing of you but to relax and gaze at the ever-changing colours of the desert.

Plains Camp caters for 8 guests in 4 spacious en-suite rooms (2 master rooms and 2 standard rooms) and is the perfect getaway for families and friends seeking uncompromising privacy and solitude. The villa’s open-plan design allows uninterrupted views of the surroundings, and, for ultimate privacy, you will have your own villa team, guide and vehicle.

The Mountain View Suite is built over 200 square metres of deck above the dunes. There is ample space to relax while staring down the valley to the distant mountains – one of the most magnificent views in the reserve.

The Suite is located within walking distance from the Desert Lodge, but is completely private. Orientated to take full advantage of the view, the timber-framed tented structure is built around a deck with a private plunge pool. To one side is the sleep-out deck and on the other, a fire pit. From the lounge, continue through to the small kitchen where your private chef will prepare your meals to be served in the dining area or on the deck.  The spacious master bedroom suite overlooks the pool deck and the endless desert vistas.

Desert Lodge is officially part of the Wolwedans Foundation and is an exciting place for us because it symbolises a sustainable future. It is the vocational training facility, or living classroom, for our hospitality students. Our students do all their theory at the Wolwedans Desert Academy (at the Village), before moving to Desert Lodge to put it all into practise.  You will probably experience some innocent mistakes, but the huge smiles and enthusiasm will make up for this. Our students have come from all over Namibia to learn with us.

The lodge reflects the ambience of a tented camp, but provides the comfort and protection of a permanent building. Each of the 9 tented rooms (3 of which are family units) have a private verandah, connecting you to the swathes of untouched sand beyond.

The extensive main complex is built across a series of decks and consists of two lounges, a number of sundowner decks, a tea deck, a library, a wine cellar and two dining rooms.

Boulders Camp is located in and around the base of a massive outcrop of granite rocks in the NamibRand plains. This tiny camp is 3 hours south of our other camps and as far off the beaten track as you can get. This is the place for adventure and to enjoy being completely removed from every day life…

At the main area, there is a dining and lounge tent, breakfast deck, library, pool and an open fireplace. Sundowners can be enjoyed from the top of a mountainous rock plateau close by, delivering epic views of the endless landscape. The 5 tented rooms are spread across spacious decks with shared plunge pools.

Boulders Camp works on a 3 night set itinerary.  This is a very remote camp and we need you there for an extended period of time in order to reveal all the secrets of this magical and awe-inspiring landscape.
