Experience
the NamibRand
Nature Reserve
Wolwedans is an experiential getaway from reality and what we are all about. We offer a range of activities that will ensure you have a completely immersive experience with us.
The Great Escape
We'll take you on scenic drives that will make your heart sing.
Breath and take in the crazy array of colours to be found in the vast plains, mountains and sand dunes of the NamibRand reserve. You will also learn about small and large desert dwellers and their quest for survival and you’ll discover a diverse flora, ranging from resilient beauty to hardened survivor - not to mention NamibRand’s fascinating geology.
Farewell to the day
Sundowners are an essential and daily indulgence with us.
Every day we gather at a scenic point to bid farewell to another magical day at Wolwedans. Sometimes we meet up with other guests at one of our sundowner decks and at other times it'll be just you on a sand dune. That said, sundowners are by no means mandatory and if you'd prefer to be back at camp this can be arranged as well.
Shift your perspective
Experiencing the desert through the eyes of a bushmen is a completely different perspective to your own.
How we see is determined by the world we come from. We look at the desert and see an over-whelming, and possibly intimidating, space that we wonder how anyone can live in. Learning from the Bushmen guides who spend time at Wolwedans will open your eyes to completely new world.
Go with the flow
Where does the water we use and drink come from in the desert?
We are lucky enough to have a constant source of water. Without it we wouldn't be able to exist here. You'll follow the pipes down to the village helping you understand the enormity and importance that water carries in not just our lives, but all over the world.
Our Heart and Home
The Wolwedans Village is our base camp of operations. It’s where everything happens that keeps this ship afloat with a sharp eye on the horizon.
Our team welcome visitors. We want you as guests to know how we make things happen out in the desert and the extraordinary long term vision of the Foundation. We can guarantee that you have never seen anything quite like it. From permaculture to welding, hospitality training to solar power, and everything in between, it's all going on here. We do however understand that many people come to Wolwedans to get away from people! So don't feel you have to visit.
Silent Consciousness
We understand wanting silence when you come to visit us. That is what brought us here in the first place.
The NamibRand Nature Reserve in the Namib Desert is one of the quietest places on earth. It's a big claim to make but it is true. Our lives are filled with noise and an activity, we want to facilitate your escape from that. If you'd like your walks or drives to be silent, please let us know.
Dune Surfing
We've got e-bikes. Gliding along, up and down over the dunes has never been easier.
Follow our winding roads through the reserve over hills, sand dunes and vast plains. You can cycle till your legs want to drop off, to a little desert picnic spot or just down to the village. There's a happy medium for everyone when it comes to e-biking.
Adrift
Ballooning over the Namib desert is sublime.
You'll feel like a mere speck in the universe, and a very lucky one at that. Suspended above the Namibrand gives you a birds eye view of the dune landscape montage and our mysterious fairy circles. For the lovers of beauty, colour and pattern this flight will inspire you for years to come. Additional cost, please book in advance.
Feel the wind in your hair
Maybe it's at a flat out gallop or a sedate walk, all level of riders are welcome.
Watching the landscape go by through a horses ears is magical. The rhythmic pace relaxes your muscles and makes you breathe a little deeper. Book a ride with us and we'll go as slow or fast (within reason) as what you like. Additional cost, to be booked in advance.
Disconnect to reconnect
Yes we have internet at our lodges, but only in the main areas.
But why not just switch off? It's not forever and your presence will be so much deeper. After all, you've only got a few nights with us so make the best of it. Consider your fellow guests and please don't face time or have loud phone conversations in the middle of the main areas.
Self-guided Creative Retreat
We have a very special little house perched on a small hill in the middle of the Chateau Plains away from everyone
Put yourself in a situation to support your creative flow. Out in the middle of nowhere you will find endless space to create. Isolation is not for everyone though, so please do consider that before embarking on this quest. The image is of a glass cube that was built by a composer who spent 40 days and 40 nights here. The cube still remains.
This is only available as a longer stay to Club Chateau Members and a quote will be given after discussion.
