Scenic Flights

During your next stay at Wolwedans, indulge in a breathtaking scenic flight over the Namib Desert dunes and view the mysterious Atlantic coastline from the air. Experience first hand the endless horizons that are synonymous with Namibia.

In collaboration with our sister company NatureWings, Wolwedans can offer you an aerial view of the world’s oldest arid landscape. Based on the length of your stay, you could have your pick of four alternate routes. For a short introductory flight over the dunes of Sossusvlei, opt for routes A or B (see below). For guests staying three nights or longer, a full day fly-in safari provides the ideal opportunity to visit some of Namibia’s famous attractions in the far South.

Flights are confirmed, pending aircraft availability (please enquire onsite). The cost is per plane and the per person price is determined based on the number of passengers per flight. Routes C and D both include land arrangements and lunch. You can read more about our flight routes below:

Route A

Take-off is at Wolwedans heading towards Dune 45. Fly down the Tsauchab River valley, routing over Dead Vlei and the mighty Sossusvlei, before turning back to Wolwedans. Flying time is approximately 45 minutes in the air (depending on wind)

Route B

From Wolwedans you head in southwestern direction to Spencer Bay. Observe the Otavi shipwreck before flying north along the coast to Sylvia Hill and the ‘Lange Wand’. Turn inland and circle over Sossusvlei, before flying back to Wolwedans. Pending weather conditions, alternative routes will be devised at the pilot’s discretion. Flying time is approx. 1 hour and 30 minutes to 1 hour and 45 minutes in the air (depending on wind conditions).

Route C

06h30: From Wolwedans head south to the Fish-River Canyon. Stop over for coffee and a view of the Canyon (northwestern edge). From here, get a bird’s eye view of the Canyon and then head northwest to Lüderitzbucht. Visit Kolmanskuppe ghost town and enjoy a seafood lunch, followed by a city tour of this historic village. Departure from Lüderitz is in the afternoon. Fly along the coastline to Spencer Bay. Observe the Otavi shipwreck before flying north along the coast to Sylvia Hill and the “Lange Wand”. Turn inland and circle over the impressive Sossusvlei dunes before heading back to Wolwedans. Pending weather conditions, an alternative route will be chosen at the pilot’s discretion. To witness the Atlantic coastline is a unique experience – your own breathtaking and fascinating story to tell.  Excursion time: whole day, arriving late afternoon. Total time in the air is about 4 hours and 30 minutes.
