The second Nice Tafel Lager Music Festival, co-sponsored by the Wolwedans Foundation (NTL MF) took place at the Nice Restaurant courtyard Theo’s @ Nice in no 2 Mozart Street Windhoek 5 March - 1 July 2011. Learning from our experience of the first Nice Tafel Lager Music Festival running from 26 September - 18 December 2010, some changes were implemented: an opening act was introduced to draw patrons to the event early and to allow new-comers to the live music scene. Focus was placed on musical groups with an established fan base. Popular, so-called backing-track artists were encouraged to put together a band and take part in the festival. Nice Restaurant invested in a tented roof, an essential addition in view of the harsh rainy season that prevailed. 1278 tickets were sold for 16 shows. As is evident from the press clips the newspapers have fully recognized the festival as an important regular item on the cultural entertainment scene – this is an important positive development vis-à-vis the first festival of 2010. The opening act proved to be one of the fortes of the NTL MF II in more aspects than one. Some came close to stealing the limelight from the main act: Shishani Vrancx a Namibian in exile, with her soul-full voice and guitar accompanied by Sam Batola opened for Elemotho on 5 March 2011. Steffen List (Tonetic) did the curtain raiser for Penilane on 12 March 2011 and young jazz singer ‘Mike Bublé’ ‘JFK’ Kondja for Heritage Band on 9 April 2011. Savannah and her Hip-Hop crew did the warming up for Blossom on 30 April 2011. Another highlight was the involvement of international act Almendra from Cuba, who took over the Qondja slot on 7 May.
