Being located in one of the remotest places on earth, in the oldest desert on the planet, getting to Wolwedans in the NamibRand Nature Reserve can be overwhelming for first-time visitors.
Whether you choose to fly, self-drive or be driven by a qualified transfer company, we have options available to you that will take the worry out of your travel planning and get you to Wolwedans safely and ready for an adventure.
GETTING TO WOLWEDANS
There are numerous ways to reach Wolwedans from all over Namibia, with both flying and driving options available. It works extremely well to combine a self-drive with a flying itinerary to maximise your time in Namibia. We can advise and help you plan this, so do enquire with our reservations team.
FLYING
Please note that flight availability and schedules are subject to change, so we advise waiting for our confirmation before booking anything.
Private Charters: Charter flights from Windhoek, Swakopmund or elsewhere in Namibia can be arranged directly to the Wolwedans Airstrip, followed by a short 5-minute transfer to the lodge. For Boulders Camp, the airstrip is Aandster, about a 30-minute drive to camp.
Scenic Air Tiras Taxi: Available daily, all year round, flying from Eros Airport in Windhoek to Wolwedans Airstrip and back the same day. If you’re connecting from an international flight into Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA), timing can be tight, so we’d recommend an overnight in Windhoek either side of your Wolwedans stay if your flights don’t line up comfortably. Please contact us for current schedules and rates.
FlyNamibia: Available daily between May and November, flying from Hosea Kutako International Airport to Keerweder Airstrip. From there, it’s about a 45-minute road transfer to Wolwedans, which we’ll arrange for you. Please contact us for current schedules.
Wilderness Air: Available daily, all year round, between Hosea Kutako International Airport and Geluk Airstrip, roughly 1.5 hours by road from Wolwedans. Please contact us for current schedules and rates.
DRIVE
Driving to the NamibRand Nature Reserve is an experience in itself. It allows guests to take in the incredible change of scenery, the wide open spaces and the seemingly endless vistas of Namibia, making the journey part of the destination.
Namibia is a driving country with a good network of well-maintained gravel roads. From Windhoek or Swakopmund, it’s a scenic 6 to 7-hour drive to Wolwedans. You have a choice of routes: via Spreetshoogte Pass (last fuel in Rehoboth, with a coffee stop at Connie’s Coffee Shop), via Maltahohe (last fuel in Maltahohe, worth a stop at Rural Revive), or via Sesriem.
Please contact reservations for current rates. It’s a great way to combine driving in with flying out on Tiras Taxi or Wilderness Air for your onward journey.
COMBINATIONS WITH SOSSUSVLEI
Sesriem sits at the entrance to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, about a 2-hour drive from Wolwedans. As it’s a fair distance, we highly recommend staying at one of the hotels, lodges or camps in the Sesriem area for easy access to the dunes. Then continue your desert adventure with time at Wolwedans, one of the remotest corners on earth.
