Over the past 20 years Wolwedans has become world-renowned for its innovative approach to fostering sustainable eco-tourism. However, with our own resources we can only achieve so much. And so we appeal to you, the traveler inspired by the desert plains of Wolwedans, and those who believe in the dream of acting today for a better tomorrow. We ask for your help, to put your shoulder to the wheel alongside us, and join our journey towards a brighter future for Namibia.
From its humble beginnings beside that borehole, the reputation of Wolwedans has spread across the world. Our business and staff compliment have grown, and thanks to our relentless dedication to service excellence we proudly count numerous tour operators and agents as stakeholders who support the Wolwedans Way.
While we love creating unforgettable experiences for our Wolwedans guests, we’re equally passionate about channelling those tourism receipts – from all corners of the world – into transforming our immediate communities. And we hope you will be part of this change, by helping Wolwedans to be the catalyst for positive development. As the world grows smaller we recognize our role in providing a space in which people can show their support, exercise their power, and support the causes that align with their values.
At Wolwedans there are a number of key projects our guests, friends and industry partners can show us that they too ‘walk their talk’. We can’t do it alone, and hope that your contribution to our sustainable development goals will transform the way we all do business. Here are just some of the pioneering projects for which we are seeking your support:
- Sponsorship of trainees
The Desert Academy is a lodge based training academy and teaches young Namibians all aspects of the lodge based operations and hospitality, including courses on food and beverage service, kitchen operations, housekeeping and laundry operations, maintenance, guiding, and front office and administration.
The Living Classroom is our unique approach to teaching and learning, where the theoretical and practical aspects are finely balanced, ensuring that the trainees are “employment ready” upon graduation.
Trainees are required to subsidize part of their training. However, the majority of the trainees are from households that are economically disadvantaged and are thus without the means to pay their part of the training. The initiative of “Sponsor a Trainee is thus a great support tool to help parents challenged by financial barriers to educate their children and contribute to their future wellbeing.
Any and all donations to the programme are warmly welcomed. We encourage sponsorship for the three to four years of training to enable the trainees to complete their training.
- Development of the Desert Academy campus
- Expansion of organic garden to include a greenhouse and chicken coop
- Maltahöhe Laundry project
- Maltahöhe Village Clean-up
We have been hard at work getting our business in balance with the needs of community and conservation, but we still cannot do this alone. Strategic partnerships with development organisations have nurtured some of our projects and these have helped us grow, but we need a consolidated, independent effort to push us to where we believe we can be.
By donating to the Wolwedans Foundation you will be ensuring our work continues into the future. You will be transforming the lives of countless young Namibians. And with every Namibian that we train and mentor into employment, we feed a family.
