Symbiosis of conservation and commerce

Over the last 15 years our interdependent model of conservation and commerce has proven to be a very successful approach and has been seen as an example for private conservation initiatives worldwide. The Reserve is financially self-sustaining mainly through high quality, low- impact tourism. As a visitor you help sustain the land by paying a fixed daily park fee, which is channeled directly into the conservation of NamibRand Nature Reserve. Wolwedans, as the main stakeholder of the tourism operations granted on the Reserve, has been designed to support and uphold this vision and has significantly participated in the reestablishment of the ecosystem for nearly two decades. The core objective of Wolwedans is to support the NamibRand Nature Reserve in its mission to safeguard and restore the Pro-Namib ecosystem. To this end Wolwedans has pledged to provide both technical expertise as well as human resources beyond its financial contribution to assist in ecosystem management activities. Some of the collaboration areas between Wolwedans and the Reserve on this level include technical expertise regarding solar power systems, manpower for the annual game census, reporting of special wildlife sightings and noting down remote water meter readings
