In the old days, we used to run a generator 10 – 12 hours every day. In 2012, driven by our vision to become a highly sustainable tourism venture, we invested in Phase 1 of the solar hybrid system with the aim to reduce generator running time and thereby reducing our carbon footprint and saving cost. Unfortunately Wolwedans can’t (yet) do without generators. They are part of the power mix and this will not change anytime soon. Even if Wolwedans Village ran 100% on solar, one would still need generators for back-up in case the sun does not shine (which can happen during winter).
We have roughly 200 panels producing 95 Kilowatt of solar energy!
